The GS-12 provides your robot with accurate data on its angular velocity, essential for navigation and control.

Using the GS-12 gyro sensor

The GS-12 gyro sensor lets you know the rotational speed of your mobile robot, for example, to deduce its angular orientation or to keep it balanced. It provides information along two perpendicular axes.

The GS-12 gyro sensor has two three-pin connectors, one for each axis. These two connectors must be connected to a controller CM-510 CONTROLLER . CM-530 or CM-700 using the supplied 3-pin-5-pin cables.

Reading data from the GS-12 gyro sensor.

The pins are arranged like this:

  1. ADC: returns the angular velocity on the X axis.
  2. GND: X-axis ground
  3. VCC: power supply (5V) for the X axis.
  4. VCC: power supply (5V) for the Y axis.
  5. GND: Y-axis ground
  6. ADC: returns the angular velocity on the Y axis

The ADC terminals of the GS-12 gyroscope return values between 45 (-300°/s, maximum rotation speed in one direction) and 455 (+300°/s, maximum rotation speed in the other direction).

The value returned by the GS-12 gyro sensor when the robot is stationary is theoretically 250, but may vary slightly depending on temperature and VCC voltage. It is therefore advisable to take a series of values when the robot is stationary, average them, and use this result as a reference value. The corresponding RoboPlus program is this:
